Working with discounts
Occasionally, special discounts may be offered to candidates, either by Pearson VUE or an exam sponsor. Discounts can be set up in many different ways. The terms of a discount can be general, such as one that offers all candidates 10 percent off the price of any exam. The terms can also be very specific, such as one that offers candidates 20 percent off the price of a specific exam if they register for the exam during a certain time period and take the exam at a specific test center.
You can quickly apply a discount to an order in Registration Manager and also see a complete description of the terms of each discount that you can use. When you apply the discount, the price of the order and any applicable tax is automatically recalculated. If you apply a discount to an order that does not qualify for it, Registration Manager tells you exactly how the order does not meet the terms of the discount.
Discounts are made available to candidates in various ways. How a discount is made available determines how you should handle the discount when you register the candidate. Refer to the following table for the various ways.
Ways to obtain a discount |
Details |
Voucher number |
Candidates may receive a voucher, which is basically a coupon for a certain discount. For example, an exam sponsor might distribute vouchers at a trade show that offer candidates 50 percent off the price of an exam. Each voucher has a unique number. In most cases, vouchers can be used only once. Test centers can also purchase vouchers for any exam sponsor. Some exam sponsors allow you to purchase vouchers at a volume discount. Promotion code |
Candidates may have a promotion code that allows them to receive a specific discount. For example, an exam sponsor might print a code in a trade magazine ad that offers candidates a free exam if they register for two exams at the same time. |
Pearson VUE informs you of an available discount |
Pearson VUE sometimes inform you in advance of discounts that you can offer to your candidates. For example, Pearson VUE might create a discount that allows you to offer candidates 20 percent off if they register for exams by a certain date. |

If the order does not meet the terms of the discount, a message appears explaining why the order does not qualify. Click Close to return to the Order screen.
If the order qualifies for the discount, the discount is added to the Order Items list, the amount of the discount is shown in the Price column, and the price in the bottom right corner of the Order screen is adjusted to reflect the discount.
