Preparing the DIA device

The DIA device interacts with Admissions Manager to complete the DIA process. To avoid technical problems, it is very important to turn the DIA device on and off in a particular order during your daily startup and shutdown procedures. If you do not follow this specific order, the DIA device will not work successfully with Admissions Manager.

Use the following processes to help avoid any problems on testing day. These processes are also included in the order of tasks given in the Daily Startup Checklist and the Daily Shutdown Checklist. For more information, see Daily startup summary and Daily shutdown summary.

DIA startup process

Use the following process to correctly startup the DIA device:

  1. Turn on the DIA device.

For more information, see About the DIA device.

  1. Log in to the administration workstation at the Windows prompt using your own username and password.

  2. Test the DIA device to ensure it is ready for candidate check-in.

The DIA device’s first scan of the day can take up to 2 minutes to complete as the device warms up. You can avoid candidate delay during check-in and address any technical problems by testing the DIA device before candidates arrive. For more information, see Testing the admissions data equipment.

DIA shutdown process

Use the following process to correctly shutdown the DIA device:

  1. Close Admissions Manager on the administration workstation.

  2. Restart the workstation, and leave the Welcome to Windows dialog box displayed.

  3. Turn off the DIA device.

For more information, see About the DIA device.
