Handling accommodations in the VUE Testing System

Sometimes candidates require special aids, or accommodations, while taking exams. For example, a candidate may require more time for an English exam because English is not the candidate's native language. A visually impaired candidate may need someone to read exam questions to him or her, while a candidate with another type of impairment may need someone to operate the keyboard. For more information, see About accommodations.

The following table outlines the main tasks required when handling accommodations. The tasks performed by test centers are described in detail in this guide.

Candidate contacts the call center if he or she requires a special accommodation. Pearson VUE grants the accommodation according to the exam sponsor's rules. Pearson VUE works with the candidate to set up an exam time and, if necessary, makes arrangements with the test center.

Click Accommodations in the Exams or Order screen, select the desired accommodation from the list, and then click Review.

Viewing accommodation information for a saved registration

In the History tab on the Customers screen, select the desired registration and then click Accommodations.

Viewing accommodation information on the schedule

If a registration has been granted an accommodation, an A appears in the A column on the schedule. Select the desired registration, and accommodation details appear at bottom of window.

Revoking accommodation for a saved registration

(Performed by the call center)

Not applicable

Candidate must contact the call center to revoke an accommodation for a registration that was previously made.

Confirming or rescinding an accommodation at exam delivery time

Delivery Manager

Select the appropriate action in the Accommodations window, and click OK to start the exam. For more information, see Granting or rescinding accommodations.

Manually extending appointment time if directed to do so by software message

Delivery Manager

Type the necessary amount of time into the Amount field on the Administrator Overrides window. For more information, see Changing the amount of exam time remaining.
