Backup palm vein process

This entire section, including sub-sections, is applicable only at PVTC Selects and PVTCs equipped with a palm vein device. The palm vein device is not required at all PVTCs, but it is required at all PVTC Selects. For more information about the differences between a PVTC and PVTC Select, see About the test center network. Pearson VUE notifies test centers if they must have the equipment installed.

You must capture a candidate's palm vein patterns through the backup process if one of the following situations occurs:

  • Admissions Manager is not working properly.

  • You fail to capture a candidate's palm vein patterns through the enrollment or alternate enrollment windows.

The backup process includes capturing the candidate's palm vein patterns through the Test Admissions Equipment application. After you save the candidate's palm vein patterns as a zip file, it must be attached to a case. Follow these steps to capture a candidate's palm vein patterns through the backup process:

  1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, point to All Programs, VUE Applications, VUE Support Tools, and click Test Admissions Equipment.

If your test center is a PVTC Select that is set up with Cloud Control Technology, do not open the application directly from the Windows taskbar. Instead, start a session on Cloud Control, and then double-click the Test Admissions Equipment icon from the Pearson Admin – Applications window. For more information, see Opening the VUE applications at PVTC Selects in appendix D.

The Test Admissions Equipment window appears.

  1. Select Palm Vein from the drop-down list, and click Test to open the Standalone Palm Vein Capture Utility window.

  2. Type the candidate's first and last names into the appropriate fields.

  3. Click Enroll to open the Palm Vein Scan: Enrollment window.

To activate the buttons that appear in the various palm vein capture windows, follow the on-screen directions. If the buttons are inactive, the candidate might need to remove his or her hand from the device.

  1. Follow the same steps as you would when enrolling a candidate through Admissions Manager. For more information, see Steps to capture palm vein for enrollment.

  2. Click Done when the enrollment is complete to return to the Standalone Palm Vein Capture Utility window.

  3. Click Save.

A message appears indicating where the palm vein zip file for the candidate is saved. The zip file is saved with the candidate's first name, last name, date, and time.

If your test center is a PVTC Select that is set up with Cloud Control Technology, the zip file is in the virtual environment. Thus, you must ignore the message and click OK to close it. Then contact VSS for help with retrieving the zip file.

After you retrieve the zip file from VSS, skip to step 10 to continue the process. For more information, see Capturing backup palm vein patterns at PVTC Selects in appendix D.

  1. Write down the file directory path to where the zip file is saved if the VUE Testing Software is not installed on the C drive.

You will need the file directory path in a later step. If the VUE Testing Software is installed on the C drive, you can find the zip file in the following location by default:

C:\Program Files\Pearson VUE\VUE Testing System\biotemp

  1. Click OK to close the message.

  2. Create a case, selecting these options:

Admissions/Check-in

Backup admissions data

Be sure to explain why you needed to use the backup process.

  1. Attach the zip file that was saved in step 7 to the case.

Refer to the file path directory explained in step 8 to search for the zip file.
