Changing the appearance of the screen

Refer to the information below if candidates need help changing their computer screen appearance.

Screen brightness and contrast

  • Candidates can adjust the brightness and contrast of the computer screen for optimum viewing. To make changes, use the row of five buttons (illustrated below) in the lower-right corner of the computer monitor. The following list describes each button and its function:

  • 1 (Exit): Opens and closes the onscreen display menu. After you make adjustments, push this button until the menu closes.

  • 2 (Select): Selects items from the onscreen display menu.

  • Arrows: Allow you to navigate the menu and increase or decrease the screen brightness and contrast levels.

  • Circle: Turns the monitor on and off.

Font size

A candidate may require a larger font size on their screen. There are several ways this may be possible.

  • Some clients have an adjustable font menu automatically built into all their exams.

  • Some clients enable the following keyboard shortcuts for all their exams:

  • Zoom in: Ctrl +

  • Zoom out: Ctrl -

  • Some clients require an accommodation to enlarge the font for their exams. There are two accommodations that clients may use: ZoomText or Adjustable Font. For more information, see ZoomText accommodations

Background and text colors

A candidate may need to change the colors used for the text and the background of the screen.

  • Some clients have a color-scheme feature automatically built into all their exams. This feature may appear as a drop-down menu or a separate button on the screen. With this feature, candidates can choose from a list of possible foreground and background color combinations. Candidates can also change the color scheme at any time during the exam.

  • Some clients require an accommodation to adjust background and font colors. There are two accommodations that clients may use: ZoomText or Adjustable Contrast. For more information, see ZoomText accommodations.
