Note: This table lists the rules agreements for each test center type. VA DEQ might not authorize all of the test center types to deliver its exams.

Note: Test administrators can correct typos in the name or address fields without supporting documentation. However, supporting documentation (such as a marriage license) is required if candidates want test administrators to make significant changes to their name or address.

Note: Collected only at test centers that have the necessary admissions equipment to capture the data.

ADMISSIONS DATA WAIVERS

Candidates who want to waive the photo requirement must receive prior approval from VA DEQ. If the candidate requests to waive the photo and has not received prior approval, inform the candidate that this is not permitted. If the candidate refuses to provide the photo, turn the candidate away.

Exhibits/Other Materials

All exams are open book. Reference materials are not strictly required, but candidates are allowed to bring a maximum of three multi-ring binders with reference documents into the testing room. Note the following:

  1. All reference materials must be bound.

  2. Candidates can use dividers, tabs, and a typed table of contents to organize the reference materials.

  3. Handwritten notes and highlighting are permitted on the reference materials, dividers, and tabs.

  4. Candidates must be provided with adequate table space for their reference materials.

Inspecting Reference Binders

Be sure to inspect the candidate's reference binders before and after testing. Follow these steps when you inspect the binders:

  1. Confirm the candidate has no more than three binders.

  2. Remind the candidate that they may not write any additional notes in the binders during the exam.

  3. Confirm the reference materials meet the following guidelines:

If you find any prohibited reference materials, ask the candidate to store them in the locked storage with their other belongings. If the candidate stores the reference materials, allow them to test. Create a case, selecting Admissions/Check-in and Problem with required documentation. In the case details, state whether the candidate was allowed to test.

Note: See the following image for an example of acceptable handwritten notes on a bound reference page:

  1. Confirm the candidate brought the correct reference materials for their exam. Generally, candidates are allowed to use an excerpt from the VA Stormwater Management Handbook and other materials.

Leave Building

Candidates are not permitted to leave the building at any time during an exam. If you discover that a candidate left the building during an unscheduled break, turn the candidate away. Create a case, selecting Exam delivery, Candidate error or misconduct, and Candidate left building.

Access to Personal Belongings

During unscheduled breaks, candidates may access personal items only if necessary, such as medication and food.

Item Review

Candidates may skip or mark questions and review them at the end of the exam. The review time is included in the total amount of time allowed for the exam.

Note: If a candidate has a question about the review functionality, please show them the review icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.

Results

Official: Yes; candidates receive official results at the test center.

Printout: Yes; candidates receive a score report. Use standard white paper.

  1. Passing candidates receive a one-page score report.

  2. Failing candidates receive a one-page score report with diagnostics and information on retaking the exam.

Web-based score: No

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

REGISTRATION AND SCHEDULING

Registration Methods

VA DEQ candidates can register and schedule by:

  1. Visiting the candidate website (http://www.pearsonvue.com/va/deq).

  2. Calling the VA DEQ registration number at the call center.

Candidates can phone the call center at 1-866-389-4417 (toll free) Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Central Standard Time.

Note: Registration and scheduling are not available through test centers.

Registration Information

  1. All payments for exam fees are handled through Pearson VUE.

  2. Candidates need to request accommodations from Pearson VUE, as noted in the "Accommodations" section. The Pearson VUE Accommodations Team will schedule the appointments and make the necessary arrangements.

  3. All VA DEQ exams should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. However, if a candidate arrives at your center and wants to take the exam that day, you can contact the call center for the candidate and have the candidate schedule an appointment through a call center agent. If the candidate is eligible to take an exam, and an appointment time is available at your center, the call center agent will schedule the appointment. After you run RMA and the exam is marked Deliverable on the Admissions Manager Schedule screen, you can check in the candidate as you normally would.

Rescheduling and Canceling

Candidates must reschedule and cancel exam appointments at least 48 hours before the appointment via the candidate website or the call center. Appointments must be rescheduled within the authorized exam delivery period. Some registrations with accommodations must be rescheduled or canceled through the call center.

RETAKE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidates must wait 24 hours in between retake attempts.

  2. Candidates may retake an exam as many times as they wish.

  3. Candidates must wait one calendar year before retaking a passed exam.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Candidates must submit requests for accommodations to Pearson VUE, and all requests must be approved before the exam appointment.

Client accommodations are never rescindable at the test center through Delivery Manager.

Never manually extend the exam time for extra time accommodations.

Follow the standard policy for ending an exam.
