Virus prevention

Sites are required to take appropriate measures to protect against infection by computer viruses, worms and other malicious attacks. It is important to recognize that any connection between your LAN and the outside world, whether it is your email system, Internet connection or a CD ROM drive, can be a potential pathway for virus infection. Viruses are not always merely an inconvenience. They can seriously damage system files and corrupt important data. If your network becomes infected with a virus, your testing system could be inoperable for a period and there may be delays in sending candidates’ exam results to the certifying exam sponsors.

We require you to install and properly configure anti-virus software on every workstation on the network to which the server, administration, proctor, and exam delivery workstations are connected. Every workstation must be protected (not just the workstations used for exam delivery), since many viruses can spread quickly from one infected workstation to every other workstation on the network. It is also critical to keep your operating system software and anti-virus software up to date in accordance with the software manufacturer’s instructions because new types of viruses are appearing all the time. The Pearson VUE software works well with systems running McAfee virus protection.

If it is determined that your site is experiencing problems that may be caused by virus infection, Pearson VUE will work with you to identify and correct the problem. Ultimately, however, each site is responsible for the health and security of its own network.
